Have you tried LinkedIn Today? How well did it select and personalize news events based on your LinkedIn Profile work history and interests?
Today, LinkedIn announced a new offering: LinkedIn Today (no pun intended). LinkedIn Today will serve as the social network's personalized news aggregation service for its members.
News Personalization & Content Curation Via Your Social Graph
The Value Proposition. LinkedIn Today's algorithm uses news "recommendations" and "likes" from your LinkedIn social graph (e.g., your LinkedIn Connections, what you share with those connections, and vice versa). This is an important differentiator relative to a news aggregation service like Google News.
Here's a LinkedIn YouTube video describing LinkedIn Today:
LinkedIn Today Is In Your LinkedIn Profile Under Newsbeta
The Social Graph Algorithm Is Pretty Cool
How Well Did It Curate Content for My Profile? If the LinkedIn Today algorithm works, I would expect it to deliver news content relevant to my management consulting career in the pharmaceutical industry. Just as important, I would expect relevant news content in social media marketing, the Internet, and technology.
Here's what my LinkedIn Today Page looks like:
Conclusion
I'm Impressed by LinkedIn Today. The red arrows 1 through 4 indicate news stories relating to industries I find interesting:
Pharmaceuticals
Marketing & Advertising
Internet
Online Media
Content Curation Powered by Crowdsourcing Plus the Social Graph. The algorithm uses crowsourcing from the social graph so LinkedIn Members continuously and efficiently build their industry knowledge with current news.
LinkedIn Today is a great example of product development innovation using content curation. I'm looking forward to starting every morning with this personalized, news dashboard.
